The rain is here. During the night some clouds decided to settle in for what could be the long haul, and it’s been a steady mist with heavier drips mixed in ever since. The precip chances are expected to linger throughout the entire holiday weekend, so it would make absolutely no sense for anyone to attempt this mountain without rain gear in tow. Winds are also picking up and could gust as much as 20mph at times, which combined with the wet will make the 50s and 60s read by the thermometer feel much cooler. The Smokies still pull in the masses of tourists over national holidays, even during sour weather. Please, if you are a guest with reservations in the coming days and you come across ill prepared hikers at any point on the trail contemplating a summit, please advise them to consider their safety and how unnecessary risks without the proper gear or poor research put themselves and others in danger. Let’s all have a safe holiday weekend.
Have a great day.
