The first weekend of August is here, and even though the first schools are back in session, there are plenty that aren’t in neighboring states, so continue to expect traffic congestion in and around the Smokies this weekend. Temps will be warm and most certainly humid across all elevations. Up top we’ll continue to bounce between the 50s and 60s. Winds will be light today but could turn gusty as storms roll through. It’ll be partly cloudy skies to start this Saturday in the mountains, but by this afternoon the percentages for atmospheric activity increases. Some storms could produce heavy rainfall at times, so be alert if out on trail this afternoon. For Sunday, go ahead and copy/paste what we’re anticipating today.
It’s already been an exceptionally busy year for bear activity in the park. Now that we’re getting into the time of year where berries ripen, expect plenty of foraging by the big fuzzy critters, which can happen right on the trail. Always use caution when viewing the native wildlife, especially those that are bigger/stronger/faster than yourself.
Have a great weekend.
