June 20, 2022 – High On LeConte

Good Morning,

Varying layers of oranges and yellows greet us this Monday morning just as they bid one good night yesterday. It’s going to be a beautiful sunshine-filled day on the mountain once again to welcome the new week. High temps should reach the lower 60s this afternoon and there is a possibility of breezy conditions at times, so an extra layer might be appreciated by some. A code orange Air Quality Alert has also been issued for our region regarding ground level ozone, so anyone with respiratory concerns should take heed if any outdoor activities are planned for today. The forecast for Tuesday looks fabulous as well.

The woods around camp continue to thicken with lush green vegetation and now the first bits of color are popping up. Some of the dwarf rhododendron bushes around the dining hall are beginning to bloom, and patches of tiny wood sorrel are opening up. What few Turk’s cap lilies haven’t been munched on by the local deer are in bud form, although those critters did put a number on the purple monskhood again this spring. We’ll see what we see and enjoy what we can!

Have a great day.
