It’s officially the final full day of summer, and although it may not feel like autumn is knocking on the door given how hot it is, what the eyes see doesn’t lie because the signs of changing seasons are apparent all around Mt. LeConte. It’s been an exceptionally dry month, and honestly a hot and dry summer altogether, which has likely hastened a good bit of premature leaf transformation. Or in some instances they’re just simply dropping off. So it’s anybody’s guess as to how decent the color display will be in these mountains this next month. Anybody out and about this weekend taking advantage of the sunny skies will have to appreciate what they see now, as splashes of yellow and red appear here and there.
It isn’t taking long to get toasty up top. We reached the upper 60s yesterday and should easily near 70° this afternoon. It’ll feel plenty warm and humid the lower in elevation you get. Views will be hazy even without all the clouds. Any wind will be an oddity today as the air seems content sitting still. Sunday is set to bring a repeat performance, so expect the park to be bustling with visitors all weekend enjoying the outdoors in between watching their favorite sports team tote, tumble, kick the ole pigskin.
Have a great day.
