Aside from some patchy fog and clouds across varying elevations at sunrise, skies across the Smokies should be rather pleasant today. Hikers should get to enjoy sunshine more often than not while out exploring this afternoon. Temps are a bit cooler than of late, as we wake up to the upper 40s but should still ascend into the 60s later. Beginning tomorrow though, we’re in for another autumn tease, with highs only in the mid 50s and dipping to the low 40s overnight. For comparison, Gatlinburg might not escape highs in the 70s this weekend. Saturday morning is calling for some rain, so a cold front and wet conditions are likely to catch some visitors by surprise. Come Sunday, sunnier skies return. So bringing layers for staying both dry and warm this weekend will be a must for anyone looking to scale the summit. Reminder that this weekend kicks off the next wave of automobile extravaganzas in Sevier County, so expect increased traffic congestion throughout East TN gateway communities at times and plan your routes to and from the park accordingly.
Sept. 6-7 Smoky Mountain Street Dreams (Wears Valley)
Sept. 12-14 Fall Rod Run (Pigeon Forge)
Sept. 13-14 Smoky Mountain Truck Fest (Sevierville)
Have a great day.
