What a nice change to have skies glowing with sunshine once again. Except for the slight chance of a brief midafternoon rain shower, the forecast is substantially more favorable for enjoying outdoor ramblings today. Anyone who held out yesterday in hopes of tackling the mountain today should get rewarded with grander views and drier trails. The heat and humidity remain par for the course, as we wake up to temps in the mid 50s and should reach the upper 60s this afternoon. Any cooling breezes will be few and far between, so best to come prepared and bring plenty of water and snacks to keep you fueled and comfortable.
All this rain and warmth has inspired immense growth of the area’s vegetation in recent weeks. Any critter that happens to stumble upon the summit or calls the lodge neighborhood home has access to an unless buffet of green goods. Bears forage the trees for nuts and berries, deer roam the open fields for fresh stalks, and even the bravest of voles come out of hiding to nibble on miniature leaves too tempting to pass by. Meanwhile, the hum of pollinators increasingly fills the air as blooming coneflower and snakeroot blanket the open patches among the lodge grounds. Life is teeming atop our little island in the sky.
Have a great day.
