Clouds are sitting thick on the Smokies to start this Friday. A Flood Watch remains in effect until this evening. Views are going to be hard to come by at any elevation today, especially with the looming threat of storms this afternoon and evening. And because the mountain is thoroughly socked in, hikers are feeling every bit of the humidity this morning. Any breeze would feel delightful in these conditions, while temps will spend much of their time in the 60s. Saturday is shaping up to be a repeat performance, with decent chances for rain during the day. This onslaught of dreary skies and precip the last couple weeks should finally be put on hiatus come Sunday. An overdue injection of golden sunshine will do everybody some good if skies indeed cooperate. Continue to tread carefully on wet trails, as all this constant moisture underfoot creates extra slick surfaces that can cause unexpected slips and tumbles for even the nimblest of hikers.
Have a great day.
