We hope everyone was able to have a safe and enjoyable time celebrating Independence Day. It turned out to be a superb day on the mountain, as the rain possibilities never materialized. Clouds over the summit held tight for much of the day, but actually broke open in time for a spectacular evening of clear skies. That meant sunset and firework viewing were on point for all to enjoy. There is just a certain wonder to scanning the horizon and seeing what has to be millions of tiny starbursts sparkling and shimmering chaotically. It was another muggy day up top yesterday, as the mercury nearly tagged 72° combined with stagnant and humid air. It won’t be as warm today, and the rain chances become much stronger as the hours progress. By this afternoon, our elevation could experience some isolated thunderstorms. Best to hit the trails on the early side today to avoid as much sour weather as possible.
The 4th of July is one of those great occasions where the lodge crew gets to briefly change up the pace and have some fun. Rarely is the whole squad up here at the same time, but traditionally everyone makes a point of scheduling their time off around it. If the weather cooperates, a mini-feast prepared by our talented cooks is often enjoyed outside in the warmth and waning daylight. It’s a great way to make memories, play some games, share some laughs, and have appreciation for all that has been bestowed upon us atop this wonderful mountain we call home.
Have a great day.
