The sun rises, birds chirp, pancakes sizzle, and coffee perks. Another day begins anew atop Mt. LeConte. With more sunshine on tap for today, conditions are expected to be quite warm across East Tennessee now and for the holiday. Temps at the lodge should reach into the 70s easily this afternoon, perhaps far enough to set a new high mark for the year thus far. The humidity and haze will continue to play their summer-time role, with one’s only hope for reprieve coming in the form of light winds. Skies will be mostly clear today with some clouds looking to gather late this evening. The possibility for stormy weather, although slim at the moment, makes its way into the forecast tomorrow afternoon and again on Friday. A little rain is a good thing after a dry June, but hopefully it’s not received in a way that puts a major damper on everyone’s celebratory plans.
Historically this tends to be one of the year’s busiest travel days for the area, particularly for vehicular traffic coming into gateway communities from I-40 to the north. It’s not unusual for the main parkway to become a parking lot with visitors all making their way in to catch holiday parades and firework displays. Plan your routes accordingly and come prepared for extended wait times both in and around the national park over the coming days. Our reservations office will be closed on Thursday in observance of the holiday, so anyone who has booked a stay now and through the weekend needing to make any last minute changes should do so by today or Friday.
Have a great day.
