Dense clouds and intermittent rain showers occupy the skies above the Smokies to start this next week of November. For much of Sunday, the heavier precip seemed to stay clear of the mountains, with only a steady mist nagging the higher peaks. But during the night a few worthy squalls finally hit their mark. What lingers this Monday morning will be light and limited, slowly moving out and set to clear up by this afternoon. Of course Mt. LeConte is notorious for holding on to the last cloud in the sky, so we’ll see if any sunshine finds its way to us today or has to wait until tomorrow. Either way, expect wet trails for a bit and tread carefully where any remaining un-mulched leaves obscure otherwise slick rocks or roots. Winds over the crest today will be light, and average temps are going to slide down the thermometer this week. Lows will welcome back the 30s at night and we’ll be lucky to break 50° the next few afternoons. Tuesday and Wednesday are both calling for ample sun though, so that should still make the hiking pleasant for everyone.
We salute our nation’s veterans today who have so bravely and nobly served America. Your commitment and sacrifice does not go unnoticed, and we are eternally grateful. LeConte Lodge is proud of its employees, contractors, and vendors – both past and present – that have served in our country’s armed forces. The National Park Service also has numerous veterans doing great things here in the Smokies ranging from law enforcement to medical, maintenance, and resource protection. Several veterans have visited the park and the trails of Mt. LeConte this weekend with family and friends, which has been great to see.
Have a great day.
