The eyes tell us it’s November with the bare trees and low angled sun, but the skin thinks the air feels more like June. One could probably fry an egg on the rocks at Myrtle Point! Ok maybe not, but you get the idea. What has been an unusually mild start to the penultimate month on the calendar is going to be downright hot now a full week in. When it’s already above 50° at breakfast and is on track to reach the 60s this afternoon, the senses are bound to be thrown out of whack. The tradeoff is superb hiking weather for those able to get outside and play today. Combined with the fact any scattered rain showers currently dotting the region have all managed to miss us, the time is right to hit the trails. As it stands now and thru the front half of the holiday weekend, we’re going to enjoy prime conditions for visiting the mountain. Once we get into Sunday, the rain comes back with gusto and will bring higher winds and cooler temps. So if you’re in town and want to get in a late season stroll up Mt. LeConte, better make some room on the calendar these next few days. Bring plenty of water and remember that it gets dark early.
Have a great day.
