Two consecutive days with sunshine have been a much appreciated sight by our summit-bound crew. After a solid week of clouds and rain – totaling near 11” – the change of scenery and readdition of heaven-sent warmth was certainly overdue. And with all roads and Mt. LeConte trails back to being open and accessible to the public in recent days, the slopes and vistas are packed once again with hikers eager to resume their leaf-peeping escapades. The winds and rain of the week prior did their best to knock out any color happening atop the park’s highest peaks. So now any colorful displays kicking into gear will be just down the trail from our location here at the lodge. The red of the mountain ash berries will hold on as long as they can before the birds and bears have their way with them.
Aside from some patchy clouds today and tomorrow, with a slight chance for rain showers, the coming weeks are looking fabulous for spending time in the outdoors. We’re talking one to two weeks of abundant sunshine and delightful autumn temps in the 40s and 50s coming up. The dry days after such a deluge will go a long way in helping the throughly saturated soil get back to a normal standard here in the mountains and surrounding communities affected by the hurricane.
Our reservations team has been frenetically filling spots for the 2025 season this week. At this point, with the exception of a few days in November, the single room cabins are all booked. If you have some friends interested in a stay next season, we suggest getting together and going in on a multi-room lodge, as a number of dates for those accommodations are still available at this time. Be sure and check those email inboxes AND spam folders as well for potential confirmation emails regarding your booking for 2025. We will begin formulating wait lists at a later date. Thank you to the THOUSANDS of folks who submitted online written requests, and to the dedicated callers this week, for your continued fervor to stay at the Lodge. It truly is a special place to so many, whether you’ve been coming for generations or getting to experience life at the summit for the first time.
Have a great day.
