The clouds are setting the tone this Tuesday morning, sitting nice and snug on the higher peaks of the Smokies. It’s unlikely we’ll get to experience clear blue skies today, but hopefully as the sun rises it’ll inspire some gaps in the grey veil to provide visitors with some moments of light and warmth. Temps are starting out in the low 50s and will be lucky to tag 60° this afternoon. Even if it does, the clouds and windy conditions will keep it feeling chilly for some. As is typical around the equinoxes, the battle between hot and cold air masses for supremacy of the skies becomes more turbulent and more frequent. So over the coming weeks, don’t be surprised if it’s excessively hot one day and unusually cold the next in the mountains. That sticky, humid air of summer that simply sits still in the hollers will gradually get replaced by active brisk breezes. Remember that extra layer or two and let function, not fashion, dictate how you pack for a safe and enjoyable time in the outdoors.
Have a great day.
