The Flood Watches continue to get extended for our area, the current one now in effect through Friday evening. But even with all this spotty rain we’ve had of late, there’s no holding back the heat and humidity. Now that lowland temps are back into the 90s, there are heat advisories in effect for the outskirts of the park. Plus this southern mountain air is as sticky as ever, even while we welcome August. The potential for strong storms remains high now and through much of the weekend. Forecasts are providing us with some optimism come Sunday afternoon with hope that skies might actually clear off for a change and grace the mountains with some sunshine that lasts a few days. Granted, that will likely only exacerbate the toasty conditions without the occasional rain to provide some brief relief. So take these conditions seriously and have an adequate plan for staying hydrated and well nourished. The cooler temps of autumn are quite a long way off still, so let’s all remain vigilant if choosing to hike the mountain.
Have a great rest of the day.
