As anticipated, the clouds held firm to the summit much of yesterday, but any rain showers that passed over were relatively light. Until around midnight when a decent sized storm brought heavy precip and a barrage of lightning. That managed to clear the air out a bit, as we’re waking up to views of the TN Valley below and a dappled sunrise. Storms are expected flare back up this afternoon, so hikers who get an early start trekking up or down should avoid much of the sour weather today. Temps will be in the 50s and 60s with light winds. Watch for slick spots on trail with all this rain and be ready for briefly heightened creek levels without foot bridges after last night’s deluge. The remainder of the weekend is looking pretty similar to today’s pattern, so keep that in mind if you have plans of wrapping up July with a visit to the mountain.
Have a great day.
